GYRO Group, a prominent Australian digital music distribution and artist services company, has recently appointed Matthew Rogers as its new Chief Commercial Officer (CCO). Rogers brings with him a wealth of experience, having spent 14 years as the Chief Operating Officer at UNIFIED Music Group, where he played a pivotal role in the company’s global expansion.
During his tenure at UNIFIED, Rogers spearheaded the company’s transformation from a small Australian team to a robust global operation with a presence across Australia, Europe, and North America. His strategic vision also led to the successful launch of UNFD, a heavy music label, and STL Tones in the audio plugins and music software sector.
Rogers’ contributions extended beyond business growth as he championed initiatives to address issues of sexual harms and harassment in the Australian music industry. His involvement in fostering mental well-being, safety, and positive workplace culture demonstrated his commitment to industry ethics and standards.
With a background in serving on the boards of key industry associations like the Australian Independent Record Labels Association (AIR) and the Worldwide Independent Network (WIN), Rogers brings a deep understanding of the independent music landscape to his new role at GYRO Group.
As the newly appointed CCO, Rogers will oversee the management and expansion of DistroDirect, GYRO Group’s distribution and catalogue management system. DistroDirect boasts a global presence with over 500 micro-distributors in more than 40 markets across six continents, positioning it as a significant player in the music distribution sector.
Rogers’ strategic acumen will be instrumental in shaping the company’s product development roadmap, driving accelerated growth, and facilitating market expansion initiatives. His expertise will also be pivotal in shaping commercial and legal strategies, supporting the CEO in developing innovative label and artist product strategies.
CEO Andy Irvine expressed enthusiasm about Rogers joining the GYRO Group team, highlighting the value of his experience and deep industry insights as the company embarks on its next phase of development. The appointment signifies a homecoming for Rogers, who returns to the Brisbane music scene after nearly two decades, bringing a fresh perspective and a wealth of knowledge to his new role.
CMO Vivienne Mellish echoed Irvine’s sentiments, emphasizing the significance of Rogers’ leadership in strengthening GYRO Group’s commercial strategies and market presence. Rogers himself expressed excitement about joining GYRO Group at a pivotal juncture, citing the company’s growth trajectory and commitment to the independent music community as key drivers for his decision.
Rogers’ appointment coincides with GYRO Group’s launch of GROUP SPEED, a new artist services venture aimed at providing comprehensive support to independent artists. The venture, led by Adrian Burke, a former executive at Spotify Canada, offers artist promotional strategies, DSP partnership support, advance funding options, and premium distribution services.
As GYRO Group continues to expand its footprint in the music industry, Rogers’ appointment underscores the company’s commitment to innovation, growth, and supporting independent artists on a global scale.
