Music Australia has unveiled the inaugural recipients of the Record Label Development Scheme, a pioneering endeavor designed to bolster Australian labels actively championing local talent. The substantial $1,732,000 investment will benefit 23 record labels, ranging from independent entities to major label subsidiaries, facilitating the creation of new recordings, digital content, artwork, marketing campaigns, production, artist development, and more.
Notably, the artists involved in the scheme will also receive support through a 10% non-recoupable artist creation fee. Furthermore, record labels are encouraged to embrace environmentally sustainable practices in manufacturing, aligning with Green Music Australia’s guidelines on eco-friendly physical music products.
Millie Millgate, Director of Music Australia, emphasized the pivotal role of record labels in nurturing artists within the contemporary music landscape. She highlighted the scheme’s broader impact, foreseeing a ripple effect of support benefiting a minimum of 83 Australian acts, underscoring the interconnectedness of the music industry ecosystem.
